Places to live in Jávea (13): El Arenal

What can we say about the Arenal de Jávea? It is perhaps the most visited area of this population. During the summer thousands of people enjoy bathing in this small sandy bay. And the rest of the year because it is the most important leisure area in Jávea. The perfect place to eat in a restaurant, have a drink or go out. And also ideal for simply walking by the sea along the promenade that bears the name of tennis player David Ferrer.

El Arenal was one of the first areas of Jávea to develop from an urban point of view with the arrival of tourism from the 60s. The old photos show us an unusual image: the sand dunes converged with the fields of vineyards.

Within the Arenal, it was the area around the old and now disappeared Castillo de Sant Martí that began to be urbanized. In fact, chalets were built there following the traditional architecture of Jávea with many rough elements; a stone that was extracted from the land where the houses were built. However, there was an attempt to follow the Benidorm model of high-rise apartment buildings which, luckily, did not come to fruition. There are only three buildings this tall in Jávea and they are from the same period: one in the Port, another in the Primer Muntañar and the third in the Arenal.

The rest of Playa del Arenal was urbanized with apartment buildings that used to be four stories high with the aim of reducing the landscape impact. Of course, the opening of commercial premises was also promoted as it is an area with a large influx of tourists.

In Arenal, the Canal de la Fontana also stands out, a natural marina that over the years has become a nautical facility where sailing lovers can have their boat moored. And you can also rent boats for days or hours.

Currently there is a significant supply of apartments for sale. There are recently built ones, which usually have a very high price, but there are also homes that require reform with more affordable values.
