The video of how a house was built in Portichol 60 years ago

In 1958 Jakob Stucki decided to build himself a house in Jávea. This European had among his hobbies that of videotaping everyday aspects of the places where he lived.

In the first moments of the recording -which has no sound- the group of masons in charge of building the house appears. A house that will be built in the beautiful area of Portichol. These workers are equipped with the typical clothing of the time and carry with them the tools they need to work.

Good location

Actually it is a reform rather than a new construction. The location is fantastic since in some of the plans you can see the Montgó in the background, so the house would have very nice views. A wall can be seen made with large blocks of tosca< /a> and the rubble of a roof made of reeds; as all the nayas were made then.

Transportation of materials was not easy then. In one of the scenes two mules appear pulling a cart loaded with several beams to place in the house.

Access to water

Another complication was access to water. At one of the moments in the video several people appear filling barrels that go on a cart-vat of a large raft located in the Pla area. Some shots in which we also see two women wearing the traditional headscarf.

Shortly after that same car travels along the old Portichol road, which at that time was not even paved.

When they arrive at the house -whose reform is almost complete- they discharge the water. And so ends this valuable recording thanks to which we see the moment in which the first European chalets began to be built in Jávea.
